~ASSIGNMENT 3~

MY CHOSEN EMOTION:

LOVE

By definition , love comes from the feeling of strong affection and personal attachment. This emotion can differ in terms of feelings and attitudes, range from simple pleasure to interpersonal attraction.

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." -LAO TZU

SADNESS

Got the blues?

Sadness is one of the most common emotion that all of us would have experienced regardless of age, gender and status. It is characterised by negative feelings such as sorrow, rage, loneliness, self-pity and most often than not, sadness can develop into anger. When a person becomes sad, they become depressed and less energetic. Sadness also always accompanies the feeling of loss. We will feel sad when we say goodbye to our love ones or lose someone closed to us or someone we loved dearly.

What causes sadness?

Several factors can lead to sadness, among which are:

~Depression

~Dysthymia

~Bipolar disorder

~Adjustment disorder

~Post-traumatic stress

Sadness is NOT a form of depression. Sadness can lead to depression. The difference is that sadness is triggered by a certain situation. It is human nature to have this feeling and just like the saying "Time heals all wounds," it will go away after certain time.

Depression however, does not have a root to trigger it. Some people doesn't even know why the feel this way. It may become manageable but after some time, it will return. If left untreated, it will grow to become part of the person's character. This will cause him or her to become negative in the aspects of their life.

HATE

From Wikipedia:

"Hatred (or hate) is an intense feeling of dislike. It may occur in a wide variety of contexts, from hatred of inanimate objects or animals, to hatred of oneself or other people, entire groups of people, people in general, existence, or everything. Though not always, hatred is often associated with feelings of anger."

The emotion starts with resentment and then develop into hate. From there, it will develop to revenge.

~TARGET AUDIENCE~

The target audience I've chosen ranges from the age of 18 to 25 years old.

~FINAL ARTWORK~

MY FINAL ARTWORK

Here are the final design for my artworks.

KIDS

In general, children loves bright colors and cartoons, which is the concept I use to make this design. This application is suitable for flash as kids like to have interactivity with the website. The navigation are simple for kids to use.

TEENS

From my observation, teenagers prefer websites with dark, vibrant and contrasting colors. Here in the design, I included two vectors, one is a fat person while the other is slim. The term "Fat Chance, Slim Hope" is to provoke teenagers, in a sense to help them. The fat person is actually facing a mirror, which he hopes to be slim. The vegetables and fruits are something I put to give some ideas for teenagers on healthy food.

ADULTS

Adults prefer to have websites that are easy to use whilst having one that is full of information. This design was based from some medical websites I found. From my research, adults prefer to have subtle colours; not to bright and not to dark. I also included some tips that adults can use to reduce their addiction to food.

~PERSONA~

Here are the personas that I have chosen from my surveys.

(KIDS)

From my research, while kids do like to sweets and fast food in excessive amount, certain parents managed to control their children from doing so.

(TEENS)

Even this person has an average addiction, teenagers and youths usually eat fast food due to their hectic lifestyle. They are always in a rush so they mostly rely on take-outs or any kind of fast food.

(ADULTS)
Adults rarely have addictions, especially around in their 40s-50s. This probably because they have been trained to eat balance meal since they were young.

~RESEARCH + PRECEDENT STUDIES~

RESEARCH: TREATING FOOD ADDICTION

Since my chosen topic is about FOOD ADDICTION, I decided to promote health care, showing ways on reducing the symptom. Briefly, health care is a treatment preventing illnesses. From my research, food addicts seem to have addictions on the wrong kinds of food.

Like other addictions, there are ways to cure this symptom, just depends whether the person is willing to do it. Also, it is important for one to analyze themselves before start making changes.
Also, you should have some support from family members, friends or better yet, a physician before you attempt on doing this changes.

~FOOD ADDICTION~

Here is the mind map and my chosen specific on my topic.

MINDMAP

This is my mind map on addiction, along with the part of my chosen specific.

MY CHOSEN SPECIFIC

This type of addiction is use to describe excessive craving and consumption of food. It is either by chemical or emotional means. Food addicts tend to show symptoms and signs like other kind of addicts.

SYMPTOMS

- Total lack of self control.

- Obsessed with food.

- Depends on food for pleasure and comfort.

According to Dr Michael Roseubaum, food has some profound effects on a person's brain. The part of the brain that he refers to is the control centre of our emotions and memories.

Food addiction is an abnormal condition as it makes people consume food in excessive amount. This is troublesome as food addicts tend to even consume food that are harmful to them because some people have allergies to certain food. These This is one of the reasons people become obese.

Food addiction is one of the common type of addiction that people are having these days. They may not even realised that they are food addicts.

~CAUSES OF ADDICTION~

CAUSES OF ADDICTION

~Genetics
~Environment
~Abuse
~Emotional disorders
~ The Substance
~Low frustration tolerance

GENETICS

Certain people have genetics that caused them to become addicted.

Addiction is due 50 percent to genetic predisposition and 50 percent to poor coping skills. This has been confirmed by numerous studies. One study looked at 861 identical twin pairs and 653 fraternal (non-identical) twin pairs. When one identical twin was addicted to alcohol, the other twin had a high probability of being addicted. But when one non-identical twin was addicted to alcohol, the other twin did not necessarily have an addiction. Based on the differences between the identical and non-identical twins, the study showed 50-60% of addiction is due to genetic factors.(1) Those numbers have been confirmed by other studies.(2)

ENVIRONMENT

Environment is another common influence on addiction. For example, children who were raised in family that eats a lot or consumes excessive amount of alcohol and drugs would like to do the same thing as children likely view those actions as acceptable.

EMOTIONAL DISORDERS

People who struggles with emotional problems tend to turn to food for comfort. Taking a nice bowl of soup, digging through a a bag of potato chips or scooping yourself some ice cream is nice way of cooling yourself. However, using food as a main strategy to overcome stress an emotional problems can lead you to unhealthy lifestyle. It will make you become a food addict.

Emotional eating creates more problems than solving them. Continuous consumtion of food leads to weight gain problems and obesity.

~ADDICTION~

WHAT IS IT?

We have heard of it before. It is something that everyone has. Addiction happened when a substance that was consumed altered the chemical milieu of the brain temporarily. Usually, addiction is associated with drugs and alcohol. However, this is not completely true. Millions of people around the world suffered all kinds of addictions.

From wikipedia: "It is estimated that at least 90% of Americans have at least some form of soft addiction in their lives."

There are two types of addiction; SUBSTANCE DEPENDENCE and BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION

Most of the time, people can hardly cure their addictions on their own. Often, people thought they can get rid of the problem by just taking their minds off it but this does not usually work as addiction relates to temptation. The more you avoid, the more you want to do it. The methods of treating addictions varies; counselling, behavioural therapies, self-help groups or medical treatment.

Post medical treatments of drug dependence can lead to an even worse situation. This kind of addiction came to be when a person's brain biochemistry is altered by drugs and alcohol.

According to eMedicineHealth, many kinds of drugs can affect the brain.
