~ASSIGNMENT 3~
LOVE
By definition , love comes from the feeling of strong affection and personal attachment. This emotion can differ in terms of feelings and attitudes, range from simple pleasure to interpersonal attraction.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." -LAO TZU
SADNESS
Got the blues?
Sadness is one of the most common emotion that all of us would have experienced regardless of age, gender and status. It is characterised by negative feelings such as sorrow, rage, loneliness, self-pity and most often than not, sadness can develop into anger. When a person becomes sad, they become depressed and less energetic. Sadness also always accompanies the feeling of loss. We will feel sad when we say goodbye to our love ones or lose someone closed to us or someone we loved dearly.
What causes sadness?
Several factors can lead to sadness, among which are:
~Depression
~Dysthymia
~Bipolar disorder
~Adjustment disorder
~Post-traumatic stress
Sadness is NOT a form of depression. Sadness can lead to depression. The difference is that sadness is triggered by a certain situation. It is human nature to have this feeling and just like the saying "Time heals all wounds," it will go away after certain time.
Depression however, does not have a root to trigger it. Some people doesn't even know why the feel this way. It may become manageable but after some time, it will return. If left untreated, it will grow to become part of the person's character. This will cause him or her to become negative in the aspects of their life.
HATE
From Wikipedia:
"Hatred (or hate) is an intense feeling of dislike. It may occur in a wide variety of contexts, from hatred of inanimate objects or animals, to hatred of oneself or other people, entire groups of people, people in general, existence, or everything. Though not always, hatred is often associated with feelings of anger."
The emotion starts with resentment and then develop into hate. From there, it will develop to revenge.
~TARGET AUDIENCE~
The target audience I've chosen ranges from the age of 18 to 25 years old.

~FINAL ARTWORK~
ADULTS
Adults prefer to have websites that are easy to use whilst having one that is full of information. This design was based from some medical websites I found. From my research, adults prefer to have subtle colours; not to bright and not to dark. I also included some tips that adults can use to reduce their addiction to food.
~PERSONA~
(KIDS)
From my research, while kids do like to sweets and fast food in excessive amount, certain parents managed to control their children from doing so.
Even this person has an average addiction, teenagers and youths usually eat fast food due to their hectic lifestyle. They are always in a rush so they mostly rely on take-outs or any kind of fast food.
Adults rarely have addictions, especially around in their 40s-50s. This probably because they have been trained to eat balance meal since they were young.
~PRECEDENT STUDIES: EXAMPLES

~RESEARCH + PRECEDENT STUDIES~
Since my chosen topic is about FOOD ADDICTION, I decided to promote health care, showing ways on reducing the symptom. Briefly, health care is a treatment preventing illnesses. From my research, food addicts seem to have addictions on the wrong kinds of food.
Like other addictions, there are ways to cure this symptom, just depends whether the person is willing to do it. Also, it is important for one to analyze themselves before start making changes.
Also, you should have some support from family members, friends or better yet, a physician before you attempt on doing this changes.

~FOOD ADDICTION~
This is my mind map on addiction, along with the part of my chosen specific.
This type of addiction is use to describe excessive craving and consumption of food. It is either by chemical or emotional means. Food addicts tend to show symptoms and signs like other kind of addicts.
- Total lack of self control.
- Obsessed with food.
- Depends on food for pleasure and comfort.
Food addiction is one of the common type of addiction that people are having these days. They may not even realised that they are food addicts.

~CAUSES OF ADDICTION~
~Genetics
~Environment
~Abuse
~Emotional disorders
~ The Substance
~Low frustration tolerance
GENETICS
Certain people have genetics that caused them to become addicted.
Addiction is due 50 percent to genetic predisposition and 50 percent to poor coping skills. This has been confirmed by numerous studies. One study looked at 861 identical twin pairs and 653 fraternal (non-identical) twin pairs. When one identical twin was addicted to alcohol, the other twin had a high probability of being addicted. But when one non-identical twin was addicted to alcohol, the other twin did not necessarily have an addiction. Based on the differences between the identical and non-identical twins, the study showed 50-60% of addiction is due to genetic factors.(1) Those numbers have been confirmed by other studies.(2)

ENVIRONMENT
Environment is another common influence on addiction. For example, children who were raised in family that eats a lot or consumes excessive amount of alcohol and drugs would like to do the same thing as children likely view those actions as acceptable.
EMOTIONAL DISORDERS
People who struggles with emotional problems tend to turn to food for comfort. Taking a nice bowl of soup, digging through a a bag of potato chips or scooping yourself some ice cream is nice way of cooling yourself. However, using food as a main strategy to overcome stress an emotional problems can lead you to unhealthy lifestyle. It will make you become a food addict.
Emotional eating creates more problems than solving them. Continuous consumtion of food leads to weight gain problems and obesity.

~ADDICTION~
We have heard of it before. It is something that everyone has. Addiction happened when a substance that was consumed altered the chemical milieu of the brain temporarily. Usually, addiction is associated with drugs and alcohol. However, this is not completely true. Millions of people around the world suffered all kinds of addictions.
From wikipedia: "It is estimated that at least 90% of Americans have at least some form of soft addiction in their lives."
There are two types of addiction; SUBSTANCE DEPENDENCE and BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION
Most of the time, people can hardly cure their addictions on their own. Often, people thought they can get rid of the problem by just taking their minds off it but this does not usually work as addiction relates to temptation. The more you avoid, the more you want to do it. The methods of treating addictions varies; counselling, behavioural therapies, self-help groups or medical treatment.
Post medical treatments of drug dependence can lead to an even worse situation. This kind of addiction came to be when a person's brain biochemistry is altered by drugs and alcohol.
According to eMedicineHealth, many kinds of drugs can affect the brain.

~MY CHOSEN QUOTE~
~EVERY ROSE HAS IT'S THORN~
From my research, the quote was believed to be originated from either from Dutch, French or Italian. In French, it goes as "Pas de rose sans épine" while in Italian; "Non c'è rosa senza spine."
Basically, what I understood about this quote is that love is like a rose with thorns. It has obstacles that one might or must face in order to gain that love. In other words, love can put you in dangerous situations.

Emotions~What are they?
Let's take a deep breath and imagine yourself in these situations: like you get married, you won a ticket to London or you managed to enter MMU, how do you feel? Happy. Again let's say something bad happened to you: like someone closed to you, passed away, you failed your exams, how do you feel then? Sad.
This feelings are what we called emotions. In definition, emotion is a mental state that happens unconciously along with physicological changes. We can feel our emotions in our bodies, like when our heart beats faster than usual or our muscles tensed. Even though emotions are internal, it's our physical expressions that makes the difference
Based on some facts from the book entitled "Emotions" written by Robert C. Roberts, he stated that emotions are feelings that you are aware of. One can feel an emotion while being unaware of some.
IMPORTANCE OF EMOTIONS
Here are a few of the reasons why our emotions are important in our lives. By the way, the first few chapters of Goleman's 1995 book, Emotional Intelligence, have a good presentation on evolution and emotions.
Survival
Nature developed our emotions over millions of years of evolution. As a result, our emotions have the potential to serve us today as a delicate and sophisticated internal guidance system. Our emotions alert us when natural human need is not being met. For example, when we feel lonely, our need for connection with other people is unmet. When we feel afraid, our need for safety is unmet. When we feel rejected, it is our need for acceptance which is unmet.
Decision Making
Our emotions are a valuable source of information. Our emotions help us make decisions. Studies show that when a person's emotional connections are severed in the brain, he can not make even simple decisions. Why? Because he doesn't know how he will feel about his choices.
Predicting Behavior
Our feelings are also useful in helping us predict our own, and others' behavior. Here is an article on the idea that feelings predict behavior.
Boundary Setting
When we feel uncomfortable with a person's behavior, our emotions alert us. If we learn to trust our emotions and feel confident expressing ourselves we can let the person know we feel uncomfortable as soon as we are aware of our feeling. This will help us set our boundaries which are necessary to protect our physical and mental health.
Communication
Our emotions help us communicate with others. Our facial expressions, for example, can convey a wide range of emotions. If we look sad or hurt, we are signalling to others that we need their help. If we are verbally skilled we will be able to express more of our emotional needs and thereby have a better chance of filling them. If we are effective at listening to the emotional troubles of others, we are better able to help them feel understood, important and cared about.
Happiness
The only real way to know that we are happy is when we feel happy. When we feel happy, we feel contented and fulfilled. This feeling comes from having our needs met, particulary our emotional needs. We can be warm, dry, and full of food, but still unhappy. Our emotions and our feelings let us know when we are unhappy and when something is missing or needed. The better we can identify our emotions, the easier it will be to determine what is needed to be happy.
Unity
Our emotions are perhaps the greatest potential source of uniting all members of the human species. Clearly, our various religious, cultural and political beliefs have not united us. Far too often, in fact, they have tragically and even fatally divide us. Emotions, on the other hand, are universal. Charles Darwin wrote about this years ago in one of his lesser-known books called "The Expression of Emotion In Man and Animal". The emotions of empathy, compassion, cooperation, and forgiveness, for instance, all have the potential to unite us as a species. It seemed fair to say that, generally speaking: Beliefs divide us. Emotions unite us.
Source: http://eqi.org/emotions.htm
The number of emotions that we can experienced are huge, yet we only managed to experience a few of them. Metaphorically, emotions let us experienced the colour of life. Often, people will think or look at certain colours for certain emotions.
Example:
Happy ~ Pink
Sad ~ Blue
Accurately, it is not that we are only capable of experiencing a small number of emotions, rather people labeled these emotions into common group.
~ POSITIVE ~
Happy
Awed
Delighted
Excited
~ NEGATIVE ~
Sad
Annoyed
Anger
Depressed

Here are some of my own quotes:-
"We live to facilitate not to frustrate"
"Loneliness is the start of a companionship"
